North British 46 Year Old Tasting Notes

Woody's tasting notes

Nose: Vanilla butter cream, dried fruit and honey.

Palate: A creamy mouthfeel with milk chocolate, Victoria sponge cake and panacotta. Sweet oranges and sultanas accompanied by an oaky musk.

Finish: White chocolate, figs and Earl Grey tea.

Overall: This spirit has typical characteristics of North British being creamy and chocolatey. However, it is also accompanied many layers of complexity - fruits, leather, and a particularly long finish for a grain.

About this Woodrow's whisky

From Woodrow’s of Edinburgh’s Warehouse Reserve range comes this remarkable 46-year-old North British, distilled on 15 December 1978 and bottled on 16 July 2025. Drawn from a single second fill hogshead and bottled at cask strength (53.1%) with natural colour and no chill filtration, this Lowland single grain showcases the elegance and depth that decades of maturation can bring. The nose is rich with vanilla butter cream, dried fruit, and honey. On the palate, a creamy texture carries flavours of milk chocolate, Victoria sponge cake, panna cotta, sweet oranges, and sultanas, underpinned by an inviting oaky musk. The finish is long and layered, revealing white chocolate, figs, and a gentle Earl Grey tea note. Classic North British creaminess meets complex maturity in an exceptional old grain whisky.

Meet The Founder

Woody Tan

Originally from Hong Kong, Woody Tan has lived in Scotland since 2011. He studied an MSc in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University, and then went into the cask trade and warehouse keeping. While looking after casks, he started to discover gems that he felt had to be shared with fellow whisky lovers. He bottles these special casks under his Woodrow’s of Edinburgh label.

Woody has an excellent palate, and a knack for uncovering really flavoursome casks. He’s also a wizard when it comes to cask experiments, and has released some interesting cask-finished whiskies.
