About this Aberargie whisky
This first bottling marks the moment Aberargie’s spirit comes properly of age, crafted with patience, intention, and an uncompromising respect for tradition. Distilled, matured, and bottled entirely under one roof at Aberargie Distillery in Perthshire, this limited inaugural release captures both the character of its place and the deliberate production choices that define the distillery’s house style from the very beginning.
The DNA of Aberargie can be distilled into four key pillars: Golden Promise heritage barley, Laureate barley, first-fill bourbon casks, and first-fill sherry casks. The precise composition is transparently detailed on the back label:
- 52% Golden Promise barley
- 48% Laureate barley
- 50% first-fill sherry casks
- 50% first-fill bourbon casks
Farm-Grown Barley
All barley used is 100% farm-grown. Golden Promise, prized for its historic importance in Scotch whisky and its rich, rounded flavour profile, brings depth, texture, and a subtle cereal sweetness. Laureate barley provides balance and clarity, contributing lift and definition to the spirit. Together, they form the foundation of Aberargie’s character: expressive yet refined, from its very first release.
100% First-Fill Casks
Maturation takes place exclusively in first-fill casks. The bourbon barrels are sourced directly from the United States and shipped whole, unrinsed, and non-steamed to preserve their full character and extractive power. The Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks are sourced directly from Miquel Martín in Spain and likewise shipped whole, ensuring maximum integrity, richness, and depth.
The result is a whisky that balances structure and generosity: the creamy sweetness and vanilla lift of fresh bourbon oak alongside the dried fruit, spice, and richness of first-fill sherry wood. As a true inaugural release, it sets a clear benchmark for the distillery’s future: confident, considered, and rooted in provenance at every stage.
