About this Woodrow's whisky
This 9-year-old Auchroisk is a characterful Speyside single malt bottled by Woodrow's of Edinburgh as part of the Warehouse Reserve series, a range that leans into hands-on cask work and expressive, modern maturation choices. Distilled on 4 April 2016 and bottled on 20 January 2026, this release shows Auchroisk in a bolder, more contemporary light.
Auchroisk is a distillery that often flies under the radar, despite producing a naturally clean, cereal-driven spirit with soft orchard fruit and a subtle waxy edge. That understated profile makes it an excellent canvas for secondary maturation, particularly when handled with restraint. In this case, the whisky was finished for two years in a combination of American and European oak PX sherry quarter casks (casks 807630A–B), a format designed to intensify interaction between spirit and wood.
Quarter casks dramatically increase the surface-area-to-liquid ratio, accelerating flavour development and amplifying the influence of the seasoned oak. The use of both American and European oak PX casks brings balance: American oak contributes sweetness, creaminess, and vanilla richness, while European oak adds darker fruit, spice, and structure. Rather than overwhelming the distillate, the finish builds layers onto Auchroisk’s naturally crisp core, creating a whisky that feels rich but still agile.
Bottled at cask strength (53.2% ABV) with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a whisky with texture and presence, yet one that remains approachable with a little time or water. The outturn of 312 bottles keeps it firmly in small-batch territory, offering drinkers a chance to explore Auchroisk through a thoughtful, well-judged PX-driven lens.
This is a release that rewards curiosity: a modern Speyside malt that combines youthful energy with confident cask handling, and a reminder of how well Auchroisk responds when given focused, creative maturation.
