About this Little Brown Dog release
This “Super Secret Speyside” 17 Year Old from Little Brown Dog is a whisky that balances playfulness with serious substance: a single cask release that invites curiosity while delivering classic Speyside quality in the glass.
Distilled on 3 December 2008 and bottled on 16 February 2026, this single malt spent its full maturation in a first fill bourbon barrel, allowing the distillery character to develop with clarity and confidence. While the name remains officially undisclosed, there are more than a few clues for those inclined to look closely, including the what3words geotag (///flinches.smiles.flirts) pointing directly to the stillhouse itself.
The distillery behind the label is one with a long-standing reputation for elegance and fruit-forward spirit, and that character comes through beautifully here. Bourbon cask maturation provides a clean, supportive framework, bringing gentle sweetness, soft oak, and structure without masking the underlying distillate.
On the nose, toasted brioche and blossom honey lead into brighter notes of mango sorbet, giving a sense of both richness and freshness. The palate is lively and slightly more complex than expected, with pink grapefruit, cress, and a touch of plum chutney adding contrast and intrigue. The finish softens into white chocolate and lemon balm, lingering with a calm, refined sweetness.
Bottled at cask strength (56.5% ABV), with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a whisky that retains both texture and personality. With an outturn of 222 bottles, it remains a tightly limited release, but one that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
There’s also a personal layer to this bottling. The cask was among the first acquired by Little Brown Dog, making it part of their own journey as a business. The label itself pays tribute to Ronnie Cox, a true legend of the Scotch whisky world and someone closely associated with the distillery - a nod of respect woven into the story of the whisky itself.
