About this Lady of The Glen whisky
This Blair Athol 11 Year Old from Lady of the Glen, founded by Gregor Hannah, is a rich and characterful Highland single malt that showcases the distillery’s naturally nutty spirit through extended and thoughtful cask finishing.
Distilled on 5 March 2014 and bottled on 5 February 2026, the whisky began its maturation in a refill hogshead before being re-racked into a first fill ex-Amontillado sherry barrique (cask 303402) for over six years - more than half of its life. This unusually long finishing period allows the cask influence to integrate deeply, shaping the whisky rather than simply adding a final layer.
Blair Athol Distillery is known for producing a medium-bodied, sweet, and nutty spirit, often well suited to sherry maturation. The Amontillado cask, drier and more oxidative than Oloroso or PX, brings a distinctive profile of toasted nuts, dried fruits, leather, and gentle spice, complementing the distillery character rather than overwhelming it.
The result is a whisky with depth and structure beyond its years. On the nose and palate, expect cassia bark, dark chocolate, and glazed apple, with a balance of sweetness and dryness that keeps the whisky poised and engaging. The extended time in the Amontillado cask adds a savoury edge and complexity, giving the whisky a more mature, layered feel.
Bottled at cask strength (58.1% ABV), with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a whisky that delivers both intensity and texture. With an outturn of 214 bottles, it remains a limited and distinctive release.
A compelling example of Blair Athol’s affinity for sherry casks: rich, nutty, and structured, with a drier, more refined edge thanks to the influence of Amontillado.
