Finish: Long and elegant, drying slightly with oak spice, cocoa, and lingering salty-sweet sherry notes.

About this Duncan Taylor Single Cask

This 20-year-old Bunnahabhain was bottled by Duncan Taylor as part of their respected Single Cask range, showcasing the distillery’s spirit at full maturity and without unnecessary intervention. Distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2023, it has spent two decades developing in a sherry cask, resulting in a whisky that balances depth, richness, and the distillery’s naturally elegant coastal character.

Unlike many Islay malts, Bunnahabhain is known for producing an unpeated or very lightly peated style, allowing cask influence and spirit character to take centre stage. Long maturation in sherry casks often works beautifully here, amplifying the distillery’s trademark nutty, malty core while layering in dried fruits, gentle spice, and a subtle maritime freshness.

Bottled at natural cask strength (54.3%), with natural colour and no chill filtration, this release retains its full texture and aromatic complexity. The cask yielded just 278 bottles, making it a quietly limited Islay single malt that rewards time in the glass rather than shouting for attention.

This is a composed, grown-up sherried whisky — rich but not heavy, coastal but not smoky — and a fine example of how Bunnahabhain evolves with patient maturation.

Meet The Owner

Euan Shand

A whisky merchant by trade, Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky was brought by Euan Shand in 2008, returning the company to Scottish hands. Since then, Duncan Taylor has gone on to celebrate its 80th birthday in 2018 and Euan now runs the company as Chairman.

Today, Duncan Taylor have a number of award-winning collections. My favourite three are their Single Casks, bottled all natural, their Octave Invigorated, with turbo-charged flavour from small sherry casks, and their Rare Auld Grain collection of exceptionally well-aged single grain whiskies.
