Torabhaig 7 Year Old Tasting Notes
Colour: Unoaked chardonnay.
Nose: Grilled smoked bacon. Sea salt and long-cured ham. A stunningly savoury nose.
Palate: Sweeter than the nose would suggest but we still have all of that delicious savoury meat so heavily promised by the nose. That subtle Skye peat makes a real impact of smoke without the medicinal notes so familiar with most peated drams.
Finish: Long and lingering as that savoury smoke and salted caramel play with the taste buds to the very last.
About this Dram Mor whisky
This Torabhaig 7 Year Old from Dràm Mòr is a confident, savoury young island malt that captures the distinctive house style of one of Scotland’s most exciting modern distilleries. Distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2025, the whisky was matured in a first fill bourbon barrel before being released at cask strength (56.7%), with natural colour and no chill filtration. Just 241 bottles were produced from this single cask.
Torabhaig, based on the Isle of Skye, has quickly earned a reputation for producing a bold yet nuanced peated spirit. Unlike the medicinal peat often associated with Islay, Torabhaig’s peat is more coastal and savoury, leaning into smoke, meatiness, and maritime character. Their long fermentations and careful distillation create a spirit that delivers depth early in its life, making it particularly well suited to bourbon cask maturation.
The nose is strikingly savoury, led by grilled smoked bacon, sea salt, and long-cured ham. It’s an immediately evocative aroma, deeply coastal and unmistakably Skye in character. On the palate, the whisky surprises with a touch more sweetness than the nose suggests, balancing salted caramel and gentle vanilla against that promised savoury meatiness. The peat here is smoky and impactful but avoids medicinal edges, instead enhancing the whisky’s richness and structure. The finish is long and lingering, as savoury smoke and salted caramel interplay right to the final moments.
A superb example of Torabhaig’s early style: assertive, coastal, and unapologetically savoury, yet beautifully balanced by bourbon cask sweetness. An excellent choice for peat lovers looking beyond the familiar Islay profile.
