About this Dram Mor whisky
This North British 20 Year Old from Dràm Mòr is a classic example of well-aged Lowland single grain whisky, where time and careful cask management do the heavy lifting. Distilled in 2005 and bottled in 2025, it has spent two full decades maturing in a refill bourbon barrel, allowing the spirit’s natural sweetness and creamy texture to develop without excessive oak influence. Bottled at cask strength (54.9%), with natural colour and no chill filtration, this release is limited to just 184 bottles.
North British is renowned for producing an elegant, sweet-leaning grain spirit that responds beautifully to long maturation. In refill bourbon wood, the focus stays firmly on texture and balance rather than overt woodiness. After 20 years, the oak begins to gently assert itself, bringing calm, structure, and a subtle spice that reins in the sweetness rather than overwhelming it.
The nose opens with chewy caramel toffee and natural vanilla pod, followed by a soft prickle of white pepper. The oak influence is present but restrained, acting as a counterpoint that adds composure to the sweetness. On the palate, the caramel deepens into a warming crème anglaise, lightly dusted with nutmeg. Gentle spices tingle across the tongue, joined by candied orange peel, lemon brightness, and a drizzle of honey. The finish is graceful and unhurried, fading slowly with waves of delicate, warming spice that linger long after the last sip.
A refined, quietly confident grain whisky that showcases just how rewarding long-aged Lowland grain can be when left to mature at its own pace.
