Nose: A full tropical fruit stall in a small glass. Mango sherbet, guava and passionfruit ice cream fighting for elbow room, with pink grapefruit, sweet oak and a spoonful of stewed rhubarb lurking nearby.
Palate: A tropical fruit salad put together by the Wiggles after a piss up. Mango, passionfruit and pink grapefruit everywhere, with honey and a strange little flick of mint trying to bring some order to the chaos.
Finish: Medium and cheeky. Passionfruit, honey and citrus drifting around like a tropical breeze, Speyside Is close to the equator right?

This Speyside Distillery 28 Year Old from Cut Your Wolf Loose, led by Seb Woolf, is a whisky with both serious maturity and a story that perfectly matches the Wolf Loose ethos: slightly unconventional, quietly brilliant, and not in any rush to conform.
Distilled on 13 May 1997 and bottled on 11 November 2025, this single malt spent its entire life maturing in a refill hogshead, tucked away deep within the distillery warehouse. Its journey into the Wolfpack is as memorable as the whisky itself, acquired from a private owner and requiring nearly a year to retrieve from its long-forgotten resting place in Scotland. It’s the kind of cask that feels discovered rather than sourced.
The Speyside Distillery is often something of a mystery in the wider whisky landscape, but long ageing in refill wood like this allows the spirit to evolve with remarkable clarity. Rather than heavy oak influence, the whisky leans into fruit, texture, and gentle maturation, letting time do the work.
On the nose, it opens with an explosion of tropical fruit - mango sherbet, guava, and passionfruit ice cream - layered with pink grapefruit, sweet oak, and a hint of stewed rhubarb. The palate follows in a similarly vibrant style, with mango, passionfruit, and citrus dominating, balanced by honey and a subtle flicker of mint that adds a surprising lift. The finish is medium in length but full of character, with passionfruit, honey, and citrus drifting in a relaxed, almost playful fade.
Bottled at 45.0% ABV, with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a whisky that prioritises drinkability and balance over raw intensity.
