About this Woodrow's whisky
This 15-year-old Ledaig is a compelling Island single malt bottled by Woodrow's of Edinburgh as part of the Warehouse Reserve range. Distilled on 23 October 2010 and bottled on 20 January 2026, it showcases Ledaig’s distinctive peated spirit at a beautifully judged point in its evolution, where smoke, fruit, and texture are in confident balance.
Produced at Tobermory Distillery, Ledaig is known for a peat style that is earthy, ashy, and characterful rather than overtly medicinal. It often carries a slightly lactic, savoury edge beneath the smoke; a hallmark that becomes especially interesting when paired with sympathetic wine cask finishes.
In this case, the whisky was finished for 21 months in a Sauternes hogshead (cask 56423). The influence of this sweet Bordeaux wine cask brings a gentle tropical richness and creamy texture, carefully layered rather than dominant. Instead of overwhelming the peat, the Sauternes finish softens the edges, drawing out fruit and rounding the smoke into something more expressive and nuanced.
On the nose, tropical notes of kiwi and pineapple lead the way, joined by a subtle lactic creaminess and soft, underlying ash. The palate becomes more assertive, with bonfire smoke and charred notes taking centre stage, balanced by bright pineapple, lemon, and a tangy Greek yoghurt character that adds freshness and depth. The finish is long and evolving: creamy at first, then gradually drying into ash, peat smoke, and a final lift of white pepper.
Bottled at cask strength (52.8% ABV) with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a confident and thoughtful Ledaig that rewards slow exploration. With an outturn of 232 bottles, it’s a distinctive expression that highlights how well peated Island whisky can respond to careful, well-timed wine cask finishing.
