About this Little Brown Dog whisky
All of Little Brown Dog's releases are special. It’s just some are even more special. And this particular release falls into the category of super extra special.
Filled on the 24th of June 1999 into a second fill bourbon hogshead, its easy to imagine that day there was probably some guy wandering around the distillery with a floppy disc, checking all the computers were ready for the millennium, maybe. So much has changed in the last 26 years hasn’t it?!
Not a great week for music, Vengaboys were at number one with “Boom boom boom boom”, but Chemical Brothers were still in the top 10 with that absolute banger “Hey boy hey girl” so lets just imagine that was playing on the radio in the filling store instead that day.
Andrew and Chris bottled this on the 30th of June 2025, then sat and waited for labels for weeks. But here it is now.
Cask strength, natural colour, non chill filtered, as you’d expect from Little Brown Dog. An absolutely top notch single cask from one of their favourite distilleries.
What makes this one special, sorry, super extra special, is the balance. Balance is tricky to get with blending, quite difficult with single malt and even more uncommon with single casks. Ben Nevis has such a unique distillate character, it’s here in abundance but beautifully balanced with the wood, rounded by 26 years of maturation, and the chaps are really excited to share it with you.
Pineapple cubes, French fancies and grape soda on the nose, pineapple tarts and flaky pastry with a wee touch of nutmeg on the finish.
Only 220 bottles from this single cask, sorry there isn’t much to go around.
The label. Andrew and Chris always link the label to a flavour, location or cask type. Well this is a Japanese painting of koi carp. Why? Well for many years, several of the popular “Japanese” whiskies were actually made from Ben Nevis distillate. Yes, Fort William, the gateway to the far east.
