Review of That Boutique-y Whisky Company’s 4 year old Tennessee Rye Whisky (Batch 3)
Recently I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing a few whiskies from independent bottler That Boutique-y Whisky Company, as part of their rye whiskey series (you can check out my reviews on Empire Rye 2 Year Old, Stauning Rye 3 Year Old and Peerless Rye 3 Year Old).
Today we’re upping the age statement a little with a 4 year old Tennessee Rye Whisky (Batch 3) from an undisclosed distillery (Any guess?! Leave me a comment below). Batch 3 is a limited release of 331 bottles, bottled at 45% ABV.
Tasting notes for Boutique-y’s 4 year old Tennessee Rye Whisky (Batch 3)
Colour: Natural; medium amber or burnished gold. Very oily; thickly coats my copita with multiple legs developing.
Nose: Bananas, rye bread, menthol mint, vanilla
Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Rye bread and spice initially. Then notes of bananas and vanilla cream in the middle. Towards the end there are soft berries in milk chocolate.
Finish: A medium finish, with vanilla and oak from the barrel, warming with wood spice.
Review of Boutique-y’s 4 year old Tennessee Rye Whisky (Batch 3)
Another enjoyable single cask pick by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. This particular expression is at the more accessible end of the rye whisky spectrum - so perhaps particularly good for rye newcomers. For me it didn’t quite have the complexity of the Empire Rye 2 year old, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and at £39 its well priced for an independent release.
