About this Woodrow's whisky

Woodrow's of Edinburgh delivers an intriguing 8-year-old Caol Ila single malt as part of their Warehouse Reserve range, crafted by founder Woody Tan. Distilled on December 8, 2015, and bottled on May 14, 2024, this Islay whisky reflects Caol Ila’s signature coastal smokiness with a unique twist. Initially matured in a refill bourbon hogshead, it was finished in a first-fill American oak cream sherry quarter cask (cask 319259A) for just under a year, adding layers of creamy sweetness and delicate fruit notes to its bold maritime character. Bottled at cask strength (57.0%), with natural colour and no chill filtration, this is a raw and authentic expression. With only 124 bottles produced, it’s an exclusive treat for lovers of Islay whiskies.

Meet The Founder

Woody Tan

Originally from Hong Kong, Woody Tan has lived in Scotland since 2011. He studied an MSc in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University, and then went into the cask trade and warehouse keeping. While looking after casks, he started to discover gems that he felt had to be shared with fellow whisky lovers. He bottles these special casks under his Woodrow’s of Edinburgh label.

Woody has an excellent palate, and a knack for uncovering really flavoursome casks. He’s also a wizard when it comes to cask experiments, and has released some interesting cask-finished whiskies.
