Ben Nevis Tasting Notes

Nose: A rich, warming, nose. Feels distinctly more aged and complex than its 6 years. Slight medicinal peat, mixed with old leather. Then a touch of fresh raspberries, again mixed with comforting caramelised red onion and cinnamon spice.

Palate: Heavy peat arrives, with lush sherry tones. Slightly medicinal, warm, and a touch drying like dark cacao or dark chocolate. Well rounded mouthfeel.

Finish: The finish is long with clear cacao tones.

About this single cask release

This is the second release from new Independent Bottler Roger's Whisky Company, hot on the heels of his extremely well received Caol Ila. Part of Roger Tan's "Vintage Selection" range, this is a rather unusual Ben Nevis release - a youthful age statement of 6 years old, coupled with a heavily peated first fill sherry cask to amp up the flavour profile, adding notes of smoke and peat.

As with Rogers Whisky Co's other whiskies, the label for this Ben Nevis single cask release is beautifully designed, reminiscent of the Art Deco golden age of international travel: two campers enjoy sharing a contemplative dram next to their smokey campfire, overlooked by the powerful Ben Nevis mountain range.

Meet the founder

Roger Tan

Roger started his whisky journey in 1995, where many of us started: as a casual enthusiast of single malts, appreciating the nuances and subtleties between whiskies and distilleries.

In 2019 he started photographing whisky bottles for his Instagram. He delighted in meeting great, like-minded, from all over the world; talking about whisky, and just plain having fun!

After a while, Roger was struck by the dream of setting up his own whisky company. So, that's exactly what he did. He made his dream come true, with the arrival of Roger’s Whisky Company in 2020. Starting modest, but with big ambitions - and plenty of the best whisky along the way.
