Tasting notes from James Angus
Appearance: Looks like whisky.
Nose: Islay and Island TCP, iodine, peat.
Palate: Islay and Island TCP, iodine, peat.
Finish: Glorious, glorious Islay and Island TCP, iodine, peat.
Selim's tasting notes
Nose: Bold earthy peat, smoked meats and a slightly medicinal undercurrent.
Palate: Warm notes of smoke, oak, and nuts. A sherry influence brings red fruit, underneath the peat.
Finish: Chocolate with coastal smoke.

Appearance: Pale straw, forms a thin line before gradually falling as thick, oily legs.
Nose: An immediate hefty waft of dry, earthy, ashy peat smoke followed by barbecued pork, zesty lemon, and coastal sea breeze underpinned by subtle medicinal peat.
Palate: Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Dry peat smoke, barbecued meats, smoked fish, lemon citrus, Muscovado sugar, red berries, coastal saltiness, nutty oak and a prickle of white pepper heat. A few drops of water bring out more of that dry smoke and more oaky astringency.
Finish: Soft brown sugar, milk chocolate and coastal salt whilst the peat becomes more medicinal. A few drops of water bring out more chocolate together with increased oaky astringency and maritime brine at the expense of some of that phenolic smokiness.
Summary: Successfully marrying together peated whiskies with such strong individual characteristics is a real skill, and this one has been done so well. The balance is fantastic, allowing those typical Ledaig, Caol Ila and Laphroaig (Williamson) notes to come through without clashing or blurring together and losing definition. If you like your whisky on the peaty side, I’d be very surprised if you didn’t like this.
